THE LADY GENERALS WIN REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

GCS fans are used to seeing region championships by the Generals, but this year the Lady Generals have led wire to wire. The team's only region 2A loss was to Heritage Christian, minus their all-region exchange student Alana Hien. Not only did the Lady Generals win the championship game, but also filled the all-region team with ALL 5 STARTERS. Samantha Sloan and Alana were the two seniors on the team. Then a Junior
Kailynn Jeffords, followed by a sophomore Rachel Swilley, and freshman Augusta Guthrie.

Coach Kent Copeland was named the region 2A Girls Coach of the year to complete the Lady General awards. The Generals were represented by Juniors Grant Colson and Josh Demmons on the all-region team.

The Next step on the march to a State Championship is at Andrew College on Wednesday February 18th at 7pm for the Lady Generals and Thursday February 19th at 5:30 for the Generals.

We Need a Keyboard for Chorus

The Georgia Christian Chorus is in need of a Keyboard. We currently are using Ms. Smith's piano that was left to the school years ago. Tuning and regular maintenance becomes a financial burden to the Chorus over the years, and transporting it to events or concerts is out of the question. There are electronic keyboards on the market today that will never need to be tuned and can be used on location or just around the campus. Its all about Character

When one looks around at the things that are going on these days it is glaringly apparent Character is a disappearing trait from among the human race. Where have all the great leaders gone. Have we all been brain washed to believe that this trait is no longer needed or wanted. Who is responsible for the demise of such a noble trait. Can we say that we all had or even have contributed to its downfall.

Since being involved in the educating of young people, I have seen on a daily basis that character is something very, very few posess. In teaching all the important things that each student needs to know before graduation, I think we as a people have forgotten to teach the thing that all other principles build on.

If we start with character development at a very young age it will make it seem as if this trait is expected, not optional. This is the main reason for my return to GCS, and I hope with your support that Mr. Lawson and myself will be able to show that this is a trait to strive for, not avoid.

GCS is 95

It's not too often that anybody or anything celebrates 95 years of existence. We at Georgia Christian are so fortunate to be affiliated with such a great institution.
So many people have given so much to put GCS in the position to influence thousands of young people over the years. Some have sacrificed doing without the extra things in life that others have, so that their children can attend a Christian school. This week we sent out a letter asking 6,322 friends to consider a gift of $95.00. We know that some will not think they can give at this time, but I challenge each of us to do all that we can, and the Lord will do all we can't.

Friday night in Savannah

Well, I just got off the phone with Coach Copeland, and the Boys Basketball team is on the way home. The game was a little closer than the first time we played Bethesda, we only lost by 19 points. Grant Colson led the Generals with 13, Payton Sorrell had 12 points in a losing effort.

We will play again next Friday in Brunswick,GA, against Heritage Christian, then Saturday in Savannah against Providence Christian.

The Lady Generals are #1 in our region, and the Generals are tied for 3rd.

The Dinner was a great success. Thanks for all who came out and ate with us, as usual the turn out was great. Brooke did a fantastic job, oh yeah Nick (Brooke's husband) was pretty good in the kitchen also.

Mary Cathryn Wisenbaker 1915-2009

We at GCS lost a lifelong supporter of the school with the passing of (Grand Ma Wisenbaker) Mary Cathryn Wisenbaker (1915-2009). We will miss this lovely Christian Lady. With our loss is Heaven's gain. She graduated from then Dasher Bible School in 1933, and raised 3 daughters who have been largely instrumental in the success of GCS. The family will receive visitors at Carson Mclane funeral home on Wednesday January 21st, from 6pm to 9pm. The service will be at Dasher Church of Christ the 22nd at 2pm.

Homecoming 2009

We had a great time the weekend for Homecoming 2009. I hope that all of you were able to come to all the festivities. The 2008-2009 Homecoming Queen is Sarah Copeland daughter of Jim(71') and Vicky Copeland, and the King is Travis Carter son of Winston Carter Jr. and Karen Harrison. The Lady Generals and Generals were both winners in their games with Providence Christian from Savannah Ga. Then us old geisers played an alumni game and we all considered ourselves winners, ha ha. I for one was sore for the next few days.
